Mechanical Engineering Intern
Manitoba Hydro, Generation Design Department (GDD)
Winnipeg, MB
Mechanical design and analysis for generating-station components and mounts, from CAD modelling and drawing release through FEA validation and field commissioning support.
Responsibilities & Achievements
- Developed detailed CAD models and assemblies in SolidWorks, applying GD&T (ASME Y14.5) and Design for Manufacturability so parts were optimized for fabrication, precision, and compliance with design specifications.
- Prepared and revised technical drawings, BOMs, and engineering reports; performed tolerance analysis and stack-up reviews to verify fit and function across mating components.
- Designed and released the Long Spruce Generating Station proximity probe bracket and its installation drawing in Autodesk Inventor, specifying A36 steel weldments, CSA W59/W47.1 welding, fastener torques, and protective coatings.
- Managed document revisions using Autodesk Vault PDM for version control and release tracking.
- Conducted Finite Element Analysis to evaluate structural integrity, stress distribution, and performance under load for components and mounts.
- Provided engineering guidance to field technicians during installation and commissioning, documenting findings and resolving design-to-field discrepancies.
